Sibling Gifted

Hello All,

It's been a while since I have posted anything. Life has been a little busy with  the holidays. Now that kids back in school and life back to normal I had some time to write.
Just before the holidays I was curious to find out if my younger one was gifted or not.  I started noticing she was not giving her 100%. Maybe because she just figured out her brother is really smart so why even try. We never said anything but we felt it. So we decided to tell her we are taking her to a teacher who will ask her a few questions. ( Since she is only 5 this is the best explanation I could give her). So the day arrived she was excited but nervous. Once we got there she walked right in and started the test. She answered the questions very well. And then of course when we left the big question. Hmmm I wonder what her IQ is? I got a call a few days later that your younger one is also very gifted. It was nice to hear that not because her IQ mattered but to know her full potential.  I am not sure what happened overnight but my daughter mentally realized she is also very smart. I had to rest assure her telling her that this teacher called and said you are as smart as your brother. She all of a sudden started to finish her hone work by herself. Started reading and bingo she changed. Not that she was giving us any trouble before but we could sense that she did not show much interest. And we were ok with it but I knew she was capable of more. Just did not know how to get it out from her.

Whether younger one gifted or not I thick it is a good idea to get them tested. Just so they never grow up thinking my parents did not have faith in me so they never bothered getting me tested. Once you know the results you can be well prepared to handle them. Both my kids are very different they are both gifted in different areas. So by taking her to get tested we know her strengths and weakness. And I think that is so great.  We have 2 different learning paths for both my kids.  I enjoy both my kids a lot.
